On-the-go consumption is booming – and changing rapidly at the same time. The number of people buying drinks and food to take away or to eat immediately is growing continuously. At the same time, the shortage of time goes hand in hand with the desire to tick off as many errands as possible in one stop. Added to this are developments such as the mobility transition and the growing awareness of healthy and sustainable nutrition. For petrol filling stations, these developments are associated with growth opportunities – but also new requirements.

Against this background, EG Group and Lekkerland have developed the REWE express shop concept. EG Group is the world’s third-largest convenience retailer with almost 6,000 locations. In Germany, the company has been operating a petrol filling station network with around 1,200 stations since 2018, in particular under the ESSO and OMV brands. Lekkerland is the convenience division of REWE Group and the specialist for on-the-go consumption.

REWE express can currently be found at more than 20 Esso petrol filling stations. Further locations will be added in the coming months.

REWE express is a place that enables on-the-go consumption and convenient and fast shopping in a modern ambience. REWE express focuses on the food service area, which is designed as a shop-in-shop solution. Here, baked goods as well as cold and hot sandwiches are offered under the backfrisch brand and customers can enjoy Lavazza brand coffee specialities. A selected range of fresh products for immediate consumption is also located near the checkout area. These include salads, wraps, fruit and vegetables.

The REWE express range is complemented by food and drugstore products. The range includes many popular REWE own brands. In addition, REWE express offers everything that belongs in a classic petrol filling station shop, such as drinks, snacks, tobacco products and car care products.
