Together for tomorrow: PENNY at the Zukunftsbauer Day 2025

The Zukunftsbauer Day 2025 impressively demonstrated what is possible when people with a shared vision come together: real encounters, inspiring stories and a strong signal for climate-friendly agriculture. PENNY was right in the middle of it all - not just as a guest, but as an active co-creator.

Reading time: 3 min.

As the initiator and sponsor of the “Zukunftsbauer” project, which was launched in collaboration with the Berchtesgadener Land dairy, PENNY is committed to promoting sustainable change in agriculture. The Zukunftsbauer Day brings future farmers together with partners and supporters for genuine exchange, new ideas, and joint solutions.

The Zukunftsbauer project

As part of the “Zukunftsbauer” project, participating farmers attend workshops on climate protection, receive energy checks and individual advice. This results in concrete concepts on how the farms can be operated in a more energy-efficient and resource-conserving manner. After submission, these concepts are reviewed by an expert committee – on the basis of a clearly defined set of criteria.

The best ideas are funded: Farmers receive up to 10,000 for the implementation of their measures from a joint funding pot of PENNY and the Berchtesgadener Land dairy. Around 700 projects have already been realized – from photovoltaic systems and LED lighting to electric vehicle fleets with their own charging stations.

Future builder products

With Zukunftsbauer products, PENNY and Molkerei Berchtesgadener Land are also supporting more climate-friendly agriculture: Because for every single Zukunftsbauer product on the market shelf – for example yogurt, fresh whole milk or butter cheese – PENNY pays a fixed amount into a subsidy pot – the Berchtesgadener Land dairy doubles this amount.the total amount helps agricultural businesses to implement climate-friendly measures, for example the expansion of solar systems.

How are the farmers protecting the climate?

Our farmers are making a valuable contribution to climate protection by making their farms more energy-efficient step by step. One energy-efficient measure, for example, is the use of photovoltaic systems to generate environmentally friendly electricity directly on the farm. Modern heating systems and efficient air conditioning in stables also help to conserve resources and reduce energy consumption. Another tool is intelligent energy management, which specifically controls and optimizes electricity requirements. Farmers can now rely on energy-saving alternatives for lighting in barn and storage areas. Milk cooling plays a central role in the dairy industry: energy consumption can be reduced by using modern systems. Farms can also invest in an electric vehicle fleet that is not only lower in emissions and quieter, but can also be charged directly on the farm thanks to its own charging stations.

These diverse measures show: Agriculture has enormous potential to actively contribute to climate protection – and the farmers of the project Zukunftsbauer are setting a good example.
