In its meeting today (7 December), the Supervisory Board of REWE ZENTRALFINANZ eG extended Lionel Souque’s contract as CEO of the REWE Group for a further five years until the end of 2028. Born in Paris in 1971, Mr Souque has been CEO of REWE Group since 1 July 2017.

Commenting on the decision, Erich Stockhausen, Chairman of the REWE Group Supervisory Board, said: I am delighted that we will be extending the very successful cooperation with Lionel Souque for another five years. In his capacity as CEO, he has, in recent years, significantly strengthened and further expanded the core business and played an instrumental role in driving forward the digital transformation of the entire Group and implementing the strategic expansion with the integration of Lekkerland. He also steered the company safely and very stably through the pandemic and the continuing economic impact of the war in Ukraine. With his expertise, experience and management style, Lionel Souque enjoys the full trust of the retailers, as represented by the Supervisory Board, and the employee representatives of the REWE Group.

For his part, Mr Souque said: I would like to express my sincere thanks for the trust that has been placed in me with the contract renewal. There is no doubt that we have major challenges ahead. However, I firmly believe that, as a cooperative, not only will we rise to these challenges, but we will also continue on our strategic course undeterred. Throughout its history, the REWE Group has continued to demonstrate the innovation of the company and its 380,000 dedicated employees. I am delighted to be able to continue on this journey together in a team with these amazing colleagues.
