S&P Reaffirms REWE Group’s “BBB” Rating (Outlook Stable) 

REWE Group remains in a strong financial position and is focused on long-term growth through strategic investments

In its rating released on August 12, 2026, the international credit rating agency Standard & Poor’s (S&P) once again assigned the REWE Group a “BBB” rating (outlook stable). This rating reaffirms the REWE Group’s financial stability and creditworthiness.

S&P views the REWE Group’s diversified business model, its strong competitive position in the food retail sector, and its long-term financial and investment strategy positively:

“The reaffirmation of our “BBB” rating with a stable outlook is an important indicator of the REWE Group’s financial stability and long-term viability. It confirms the strength of our business model, our leading market positions, and our consistent investment strategy. Especially in a challenging economic environment, the rating demonstrates confidence in our sustainable growth trajectory and our financial strength,” says Telerik Schischmanow, Chief Financial Officer of the REWE Group.

Strong market positions and a broad portfolio

S&P considers the REWE Group to be well-positioned in the European food retail sector. The rating agency particularly highlights the group’s strong market position in Germany, Austria, and the Czech Republic, its diversified business structure, and its high brand awareness. In addition, the REWE Group’s extensive store network, attractive locations, and procurement expertise contribute to its strong competitive position.

S&P cites the REWE Group’s long-term, value-creating investment strategy as another positive factor. The rating agency specifically points to investments in stores, logistics, and automation, as well as the expansion of the group’s own locations.

First Cooperative with an Internationally Recognized Rating

Standard & Poor’s first rated the REWE Group in 2010. This made it the first cooperatively organized company in Germany to receive an internationally recognized rating. Since then, the REWE Group has consistently maintained an investment-grade rating.
