At the beginning of March, toom successfully put its new AutoStore system into productive operation at the Fulfillment Center (FFC) in Rodgau. Die erste Zwischenbilanz ist durchweg positiv: We are very satisfied. The commissioning of the AutoStore system went smoothly and without any problems. The go-live went according to plan and had no impact on day-to-day business,
summarizes Dominique Rotondi, Managing Director Goods & Logistics toom Baumarkt DIY store.

How does AutoStore work?
AutoStore will enable significantly more efficient processes in small parts picking in future:
Seven autonomous robots remove bins from the storage cube, transport them automatically and deliver them directly to the picking ports for the employees.
The advantage: this significantly reduces distances in the warehouse and creates ergonomic working conditions.
What can AutoStore already do at this stage?
Bereits rund 23.000 containers are already in productive storage and flow into order processing every day. Automated provisioning means that throughput times are noticeably shorter. This ensures greater reliability and flexibility in day-to-day operations, especially with the increasing volume of orders.
The successful transition to live operation is the result of close cooperation between logistics, IT, technology and the head office at toom, as well as several external partners. Thanks to intensive training, comprehensive test runs and technical fine-tuning in the weeks leading up to the go-live, the system launch was able to take place without any interruptions or restrictions.
The logistics site in Rodgau is deliberately located close to the toom warehouse in Dietzenbach so that both the product range and delivery times are optimized. Thanks to the more efficient process design, we can not only expand the product range, but also improve the customer experience,
says Reinke. B2C orders from the toom online store are processed here on a total of around 30,000 square meters.
