  • Unmanned convenience shop offers travellers, commuters and residents the opportunity to stock up around the clock, seven days a week

  • Artificial intelligence enables fast and convenient shopping

  • The range focuses on products for immediate consumption or on the go

Frechen/Koblenz, 19 December 2024 – In future, travellers, commuters and local residents will be able to buy snacks and drinks at Koblenz main station seven days a week. The unmanned REWE To Go, which Lekkerland has opened in the station, offers this option.

Snacks, drinks or coffee: thanks to the newly opened REWE To Go, the main railway station in Koblenz is now supplied around the clock. The product range of the 65 square metre convenience shop mainly includes products for immediate consumption or on the go, such as sandwiches, wraps, salads, sweets, salty snacks such as crisps, drinks, coffee specialities and tobacco products. There are also selected food and drugstore items.

Shopping in the shop is simple and intuitive: customers first scan a cashless payment method. Girocards, debit and credit cards as well as Google Pay and Apple Pay are accepted. Customers can then pick the products they want from the fridges. Artificial intelligence, supported by cameras and weight sensors, recognises which items have been removed and automatically deducts the invoice amount. When purchasing tobacco products and alcohol, age verification is first required by scanning an ID card or driving licence.

“High-frequency locations offer promising potential”

We are very excited about our first smart store at a railway station. High-frequency locations such as railway stations and airports offer promising potential for unmanned shop concepts, says Mehmet Tözge, Vice President Smart Stores at Lekkerland. We are therefore very excited to see how this shop is received by customers.

With this shop, a convenient, quick shopping option is moving into Koblenz Central Station – in line with our goal of offering travellers and station visitors an attractive station with innovative services, says Christopher Wohlfarth, Head of Commercial Sales in DB’s Central Regional Division.

With the location in Koblenz, Lekkerland operates 18 unmanned shops across Germany. Other locations include loading bays, hospitals and office buildings.

The company has a portfolio of five different smart store solutions that is unique in Germany. The concepts differ in terms of the technology used and the purchasing process, among other things.
