Our four pillars for more sustainability

The REWE Group’s sustainability strategy focuses on four areas of action that describe the key themes of our sustainability commitment.

Products and Product Linern

The production of our private-label products has an impact on people, animals, and the environment. We embrace the challenges this presents and are working to offer increasingly sustainable product lines. In doing so, we always consider the entire supply chain and step up our efforts where we see social and environmental standards at risk. Within the areas of action—People, Animals, Environment, and Nutrition—we develop measures to reduce environmental and social impacts.

Organic products at REWE

With more than 3,200 items, REWE has the largest selection of organic products in the German food retail sector.

Vegan products at REWE

In Germany, REWE offers over 1,800 purely plant-based own-brand and branded products.

Energy, Climate & Environment

Whether in the cultivation and production of goods, the provision of services, or in logistics and the operation of markets—CO2 emissions are generated everywhere. Within the areas of energy efficiency, climate-related emissions, and resource conservation, we are developing measures to reduce these impacts.

Holistic market concept

We are constantly developing our sites further through our concept for sustainable markets.

Employees

Dedicated and qualified employees make a decisive contribution to our company’s success. That is why we go to great lengths to promote employee satisfaction and productivity. In addition to competitive compensation, we offer additional employee benefits and flexible work schedules. We also develop tailored programs that make it easier for employees to balance their professional and personal lives.

Within the areas of Values and Culture, Training and Development, Health and Safety, Work and Life Stages, and Diversity and Equal Opportunity, we develop appropriate measures to foster a successful work environment.

We educate.

In 2025, the target of 5.4 percent apprentices as a proportion of the workforce was achieved.

Internal filling of management positions

Our goal is to recruit managers from within our own ranks and to develop qualified employees in the long term.

Social commitment

We are active in many regions around the world. The development of children and young people is particularly close to our hearts. Among other things, we aim to help overcome inequality of opportunity. To this end, we rely on strong partner organizations and also involve our customers and employees in our projects. This strengthens the sense of community and expands the reach of the projects. We are active in the following areas—conscious nutrition and physical activity, opportunities for children and young people, responsible food consumption, and biodiversity and environmental protection—and carry out a wide range of projects.
