Diversity has a firm place at REWE Group – not just as a value, but as part of the corporate culture: We cultivate a culture in which openness, diversity and mutual respect are a matter of course. The workplace should be a place of community for all of us – an environment in which diversity is not just written on paper, but can be felt in our daily interactions, emphasizes Daniela Büchel, Head of HR & Sustainability at REWE Group.

Back in 2017, REWE Group signed the Charter of Diversity committed to strengthening a non-discriminatory working environment. An important part of this commitment is the LGBTQIA+ network DITO, which is committed to promoting greater tolerance and acceptance within the company. DITO supports internal awareness-raising processes, organizes events such as the Come-Together Cup, a soccer festival of diversity, and is regularly represented at events to promote diversity and inclusion. Since 2015, REWE Group has had a presence at Cologne’s Christopher Street Day (CSD), and in 2025 for the third time as the main sponsor of the ColognePride. The company also supports similar initiatives in cities such as Hamburg, Berlin and Frankfurt.

From gold to platinum – a strong signal

The REWE Group’s commitment to diversity and equal opportunities is also reflected in the current PRIDE Index, which is compiled annually by the Uhlala Group, Germany’s leading LGBTIQ+ social business. The index assesses how well companies implement measures to promote LGBTIQ+ inclusion and how firmly these are anchored in the corporate culture.

The REWE Group has been participating in the certification process for three years and has been able to continuously improve its rating. After two years at gold level, the company achieved platinum status for the first time in 2025 with a score of 98,44 percent – a strong result that underlines the continuous progress and the firm anchoring of diversity issues in the company.

“People can’t tell you’re straight”

On the occasion of the International Day against Homo-, Bi-, Inter- and Transphobia, DITO launched a “postcard campaign” against prejudice and unconscious exclusion this year. The team distributed postcards in administrative, warehouse and market locations, which translated typical slogans against queer people into their “straight” counterparts (“You’re straight? That’s cool, you don’t even notice!”). The campaign makes it clear how powerful seemingly harmless statements can be and how discriminatory they are for queer people. With this postcard initiative, REWE Group won the Audience Award of the Pride Day Contest 2025. Campaigns like this show how committed the company is to making diversity visible and breaking down prejudices. The current result of the PRIDE Index 2025 makes this claim measurable and documents the continuous progress once again.

Diversity is not the end of the line, but a daily task

The full PRIDE Index report will be published on November 19. REWE Group’s platinum rating recognizes the continuous progress made in recent years and shows that strengthening diversity is an integral, constantly growing part of the company. This is not a fixed state, but an ongoing process that is actively shaped by many participants within REWE Group.
