Bochum/Cologne, 7 October 2022 – Whether you have a few minutes to spare during the children’s football training or are on the way back from a late shift, efficiency is a precious commodity when you’re in a rush. So there’s good news for REWE customers and more. REWE has expanded its partnership with Aral to install Aral pulse fast-charging stations at 180 REWE stores across Germany. So Customers will be able to charge while they shop.

Thanks to the cooperation with Aral pulse, the largest provider of publicly accessible ultra-fast charging stations in Germany, at least 720 charge points with a charging capacity of up to 54,000 kW will be installed by the end of 2024. This makes Aral one of REWE’s most important e-mobility partners in Germany.

The cooperation between REWE and Aral began in February 2016 and today includes REWE To Go stores at 768 Aral petrol stations. The Aral partnership is bringing rapid, reliable charging to many of REWE’s conveniently located supermarkets. The first charging station is scheduled to go into operation in the fourth quarter of 2023.

According to Alexander Junge, Board Member for E-Mobility at Aral: Telerik Shishmanov, Member of the REWE Group’s Management Board, added: Under the cooperation, between two and six fast-charging stations, to be entirely powered by renewable energy, will be set up at each of the selected REWE car parks. Each station will have two charge points and a charging capacity of 150 kW, allowing customers to charge a range of up to 150 km within ten minutes provided they have the required battery technology.

In addition, Aral pulse offers Plug & Charge technology, which allows customers to charge at public charging stations without a charging card or app. The driver simply connects the electric car to the charging point and leaves the charging station and the car to take care of everything else. Thanks to the underlying ISO 15118 standard, the vehicle authenticates itself automatically, transmitting the customer account data stored in the vehicle. Billing is then automatic and does not require the driver to connect to WiFi. E-car drivers can thus get back on the road much faster.

The planned partnership will initially include 180 REWE leased properties. Aral and REWE are also looking into rolling out the service to up to 600 locations in Germany not owned by the company.Partnerships like this are exactly what we need for a fast rollout of our EV charging stations. Our goal is to provide our customers with rapid, reliable charging wherever they need it. The 150 kW charging stations from Aral pulse expand the offering of REWE stores and give customers the added convenience of being able to charge while they shop.

With Aral pulse’s fast-charging stations, we are expanding our e-infrastructure. This additional service will help make the daily lives of our customers and employees easier. One of our climate goals is to install a total of 4,000 charge points at existing leased properties and new buildings by 2024. Our partnership with Aral goes a long way toward helping us achieve this.

Through this expansion of e-charging facilities in store car parks, REWE is responding proactively to the Building Electromobility Infrastructure Act (GEIG). This act stipulates that, starting in 2025, all non-residential buildings with more than 20 parking spaces must have at least one charging point.
