They will also be on sale in several hundred REWE stores under the \u201cFeine Welt\u201d brand from Wednesday (29\/01).<\/p>\n<p>Tests in the warehouse previously showed that it is possible to double the shelf life of avocados \u2013 up to eight days with the right conditions. For the REWE Group, the coating is a further step forward in its long-term sustainability strategy to halve the amount of food waste by 2030. The test is running indefinitely.<\/p>\n<p><q>We see the coating as an innovative procedure to significantly lengthen the shelf life of selected fruits, such as avocados, limes and other citrus fruits, as well as pome fruits, such as apples and pears. This is beneficial both for us as the retailer and for our customers since fewer avocados are thrown away.
