Dear Ines, who are you? And what has had a particularly strong influence on your professional career?<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

I am Director <\/span>Africa & Middle East<\/span> at DERTOUR<\/span>. In the tourism industry – <\/span>which, by the way, has a very high proportion of women \u2014 I joined right after I finished my studies<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>My journey<\/span>, which took me from the Caribbean through Northern Europe to the Indian Ocean,\u00a0<\/span>was never planned down to the last detail, but shaped by curiosity<\/span>, which <\/span>led to a desire for challenges<\/span> and two <\/span>specific <\/span>events. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n

What events were those?<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

First, there was my nearly two-year work assignment in South Africa. There, I learned that there isn\u2019t just one right way to reach a goal \u2014 and that my very direct approach doesn\u2019t always lead to success in every cultural context. That experience permanently broadened my perspective on people, collaboration, and leadership. On the other hand, a life-changing health diagnosis about four years ago turned my life completely upside down. This experience changed me both personally and as a leader. Today I know that not everything can be planned. Since then, I\u2019ve focused with as much composure as possible on the things I can influence.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
