Taking on responsibility early on, thinking like an entrepreneur and implementing your own ideas – the dual study program for self-employment at REWE offers ambitious junior staff a unique perspective. Leon Lindemann, one of the first graduates, and REWE independent retailer Erich Stockhausen on the great challenges and great times at the store.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

A degree course with prospects<\/h2>\n

With the dual study program for self-employment, REWE Group has created an innovative training model that specifically prepares young people for entrepreneurial responsibility as independent retailers. For Erich Stockhausen, long-time REWE independent retailer and co-initiator of the program, one thing is clear: If someone graduates from high school at 18 or 19, they can usually only become self-employed ten years later. The dual study program shortens the waiting time and uses it for thorough preparation.<\/q><\/p>\n <\/div>\n\n <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n

The program combines Business Administration theory at the ADG Business School in Montabaur with intensive practical experience in the market. The aim is to promote entrepreneurial thinking while offering the security and support of the cooperative structure.<\/p>\n <\/div>\n\n <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n

“I just wanted to get started” – Leon Lindemann’s path<\/h2>\n

Leon Lindemann is one of the first to follow this path. After graduating from high school, he started out on the REWE baccalaureate program, then switched to the REWE Academy – and finally to the dual study program. I took the initiative myself and approached Erich,<\/q> he says. We initiated the topic in 2020 – and then everything took its course.<\/q><\/p>\n <\/div>\n\n <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n

What particularly impressed him? The combination of theory and practice. I was able to take on responsibility, implement projects and deepen my knowledge at the same time.<\/q> The network that he built up during the attendance days at Schloss Montabaur was also particularly valuable: The exchange with like-minded people from all over Germany was simply great.<\/q><\/p>\n <\/div>\n\n <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n

Freedom, responsibility, creative freedom<\/h2>\n

For both Lindemann and Stockhausen, the appeal of self-employment lies in the freedom to shape things themselves. You have to enjoy making your own decisions and being independent,<\/q> says Stockhausen. Lindemann adds: The biggest motivation is to show future generations how exciting retail is. You can build something of your own – that’s a great feeling.<\/q> <\/p>\n

However, studying is no walk in the park. Time management was the biggest challenge for me,<\/q> admits Lindemann openly. But with the support in the store and the clear schedule – three days of practice, two days of theory – it was manageable.<\/q><\/p>\n <\/div>\n\n <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n

Cooperative as backing<\/h2>\n

A central element of the course is the cooperative structure of the REWE Group and the associated financial support for the course from the sponsoring association. Without the cooperative, this course would not even exist,<\/q> emphasizes Lindemann. It offers the long-term perspective and security that you need for this path.<\/q> Stockhausen also sees this as a decisive advantage: We help people get on their feet. With the know-how and support of the cooperative, you can set up your own business – and you’re not left on your own.<\/q><\/p>\n <\/div>\n\n <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n

A future with many options<\/h2>\n

Today, Leon Lindemann works in purchasing at PENNY in order to gain further insights into the structures of the REWE Group. He has by no means lost sight of self-employment: I see this as broadening my horizons. Whether I’m self-employed in ten years’ time or working in international purchasing – I’m open to both.<\/q> <\/p>\n

His advice to anyone thinking about starting a dual study program: Just start! If you have a passion for the field, the rest will come naturally.<\/q><\/p>\n <\/div>\n\n <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n

Dual study with REWE and nahkauf<\/h2>\n

The three-year Bachelor’s degree program is a combination of modern business administration and specialist and industry-specific know-how. In the first four semesters, students learn the basics of business administration. In the fifth and sixth semesters, students then specialize in retail. Students acquire their theoretical knowledge at the ADG Business School in Montabaur, where they spend eight days per semester, and in self-study e-learning units. At the same time, they go through all market areas and gradually take on more responsibility. The course trains them for self-employment with REWE and nahkauf.<\/p>\n
