For many years, the cooperative trade and tourism group has been committed to eliminating the flouting of labour, social and environmental standards, particularly at the raw-material cultivation and processing stages of the supply chain. Our guidelines constitute a binding framework for commercial relationships with contractual partners in the REWE Group’s private-label supply chain. The policies and objectives described below serve to underpin the company’s responsibility towards society and the environment.
The REWE Group wants to improve social and environmental conditions across its value chains. In its Guideline for sustainable business practices published in 2011, the REWE Group documents the company’s values, thus providing the basis for additional guidelines that address the issues of complying with social standards and safeguarding raw materials.
Our overarching guidelines for the promotion of fair trade not only include defined processes to strengthen human rights and improve working conditions, but also establish fundamental values and objectives for implementing appropriate animal welfare policies. These commitments apply to our own business practices as well as to our global supply and value chains.
The REWE Group constantly strives to make its supply chains more socially and ecologically viable and uses a comprehensive supply chain management system to introduce and implement appropriate policies. In so doing, the company relies on internationally recognised certification standards, collaborates in sector-wide initiatives, launches projects and, in keeping with its guidelines, formulates its own requirements for focus raw materials and production facilities in high-risk countries.
The REWE Group’s Code of Conduct (CoC) for compliance with corporate due diligence standards in the supply chain defines the non-negotiable minimum standards that suppliers must observe and adhere to in business transactions involving the companies of the REWE Group.
