Three questions with Raimund Esser about Grüne Woche 2024

Raimund Esser, Head of Corporate Communications at REWE, looks ahead towards Grüne Woche in our “Three Questions…” series – including REWE Group's exhibition stands.

Reading time: 4 min.

  • Grüne Woche 2024 starts tomorrow, and REWE Group is once again an exhibitor. What can visitors expect at our stands?

Grüne Woche in Berlin is one of the oldest and best-known trade fairs in Germany, and has been the leading international trade fair for food, agriculture, and gardening for decades. Grüne Woche also provides a platform for discussing current social issues such as climate protection, recycling management, resource conservation, and sustainable land use. This year, REWE Group and its retail brands REWE and PENNY, as well as our Competence Center Agriculture (“Kompetenzzentrum Landwirtschaft”) will be participating in the “Erlebnis Bauernhof” (Experience Farm) of the Forum for Modern Agriculture (Forum Moderne Landwirtschaft e.V.). Following the slogan REWE Group and Agriculture. Growing Together, we will have 200 square meters of exhibition space to show how we support domestic agriculture through promoting innovative projects in areas such as climate protection, regional products, and animal welfare. Visitors will get answers to questions such as How does REWE Group support domestic agriculture? Ten exemplary projects from PENNY, REWE and our Competence Center Agriculture illustrate the trusting and cooperative partnership between REWE Group and the farming sector. The projects range from programs for implementing climate protection measures, or to support products from farms currently in conversion to organic farming, to regional meat programs based on higher annual animal husbandry standards, and include our partnerships with regional and local producers.

  • “REWE Group and Agriculture. Growing together”. Why did you choose this slogan?

The challenges facing domestic agriculture are well known and more topical than ever. Our motto expresses exactly what we are doing: at Grüne Woche we focus on cooperation and communication with German agriculture. Together, in partnership and at eye level with farmers and producers, we want to initiate concrete changes and contribute as a retailer to a more sustainable agriculture. This transformation and strengthening of agriculture can only be achieved together. Concrete projects that we are initiating together will take us closer to this goal, and will be on display at our stand for visitors to experience.

  • You have been coming to Grüne Woche for many years, and have had countless discussions with representatives of the agricultural industry, politics, society, and your customers. What makes this fair so special to you?

REWE has been exhibiting at Grüne Woche for many years, and for good reason. For me, Grüne Woche is the world’s leading trade fair for current issues in the fields of nutrition, agriculture, and gardening. It is also the platform and hub for key trends and developments in the agri-food industry, for sustainability, for exchanging ideas with experts, for dialogue with all stakeholders – politicians, media, scientists, and consumers – and for presenting our initiatives and projects. There is no better hotspot for this than Grüne Woche. Nowhere else in Germany can we reach and engage with so many people, discuss with them and present our company for ten days. That is why we will be at Grüne Woche again next year.
