Position on competition

We voice the concerns of our 384,000 colleagues and represent the REWE Group’s interests regarding policy. The following sections give a more in-depth view of how this translates across a range of policy areas.

Federal bill on the implementation of the UTP directive

In November 2020, the German cabinet passed a bill on a second law amending the Agricultural Commodity Markets law to implement the EU directives on unfair trading practices in the agricultural and food supply chain (UTP directive). We believe that the bill requires parliamentary improvement.

Federal bill on the amendment to the Act against Restraints of Competition (10th ARC amendment)

The 10th amendment to the Act against Restraints of Competition (‘ARC Digitalisation Act’) aims to better regulate the large, dominant digital companies and platforms in respect of competition law concerning merger control and abuse control regimes. We are committed to fair commercial competition, whether that be in store or online. We call into question the immediate necessity of further regulations, given that adjustments to the development of digital business models were made with the 9th amendment of the ARC act.
