REWE Group places one billion Euro Schuldscheindarlehen loan

The REWE Group is making use of generally favourable conditions in the financial markets to strengthen its strategic financial reserves through the successful placement of a Schuldscheindarlehen. The final volume of the transaction is one billion Euro and comprises various tranches with 3 to 10 year maturities.

As a result of investors’ strong demand, the original volume of 500 million Euro was increased to one billion Euro. The margin on the loan was fixed at the lower end of the marketing range. The transaction was placed with around 250 investors, primarily savings and cooperative banks as well as national and international commercial banks. The Schuldscheindarlehen was placed by BNP Paribas, DZ BANK, LBBW and UniCredit.

“Given our strong economic profile, we were able to secure the benefits of the current low interest rates by placing long term Schuldscheindarlehen. Moreover, it increases our flexibility to grow our market position as one of the leading food and holiday travel retailers. Consequently, we will be stepping up our stationary business as well as our digital transformation,” says Dr. Christian Mielsch, CFO of the REWE Group, commenting on the successful issue of the bonded loan.

Dr. Klaus Wirbel, head of finance at the REWE Group, is also very pleased with the results. The fact that the transaction was substantially oversubscribed testifies investors’ confidence in the REWE Group’s credit profile and business model. At the same time, we have additionally diversified our investor base through a granular order book and have strengthened the market awareness towards REWE Group both nationally and internationally.
