Boris Schnabel appointed CFO DER Touristik Group
New appointment completes international tourism company's Executive Board
The international management line-up at DER Touristik Group is now complete. REWE Group's Management Board has chosen Boris Schnabel (45) to become the international Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of DER Touristik Group. DER Touristik Group is the travel and tourism division of REWE Group, Europe's leading trade and tourism group.
As CFO, Schnabel will have overall responsibility for the finances at DER Touristik Group, numbering over 120 companies in 14 countries. He will report to the CEO of DER Touristik Group, Sören Hartmann. After earning a master's in business administration (MBA), Schnabel began his career in the corporate finance sector at KPMG International.
From there, he moved on to become CFO at Webfair AG, a content management software start-up. Upon joining Metro Group, he initially headed strategic business development before assuming various national and international management roles, including that of regional financial officer of CEE. In 2012, Schnabel became CFO of Metro Cash & Carry and CEO of Metro Cash & Carry International Holding, Vienna. He will assume his new position as CFO of DER Touristik on 1 October 2016.

"With his extensive experience in international controlling, mergers and acquisitions, and taxation matters, he will play a key role in our international expansion process," the CEO of DER Touristik indicated, adding: "I am delighted we were able to secure his services for our Group and the tourism sector."
As CFO at DER Touristik Group, Schnabel will lead a team of experts who manage Group-wide financial issues, focusing on treasury, group reporting and group controlling. The national CFOs will continue to exercise their own individual responsibilities.
In a further change, Klaus Franke, CFO DER of Touristik Central Europe, will be assuming additional responsibilities. With immediate effect, Franke will have overall financial responsibility for the source markets of Germany, Austria and Switzerland, including DER Touristik Cologne, DER Touristik Frankfurt and Kuoni Switzerland with its subsidiaries.
DER Touristik, which is part of the REWE Group, generates revenue of 7 billion euros and has 9,400 employees (2014), making it one of the leading travel groups in Europe.
7.7 million customers from 14 European countries use the tour operators of DER Touristik each year to travel to 179 destination countries around the world. The tour operators in the volume business include the following brands: ITS, Jahn Reisen, Travelix, Dertour,
Meier's Weltreisen and ADAC Reisen (Germany), Kuoni (Switzerland and UK), Helvetic Tours (Switzerland) and Apollo (Scandinavia and Finland). In Austria and East European countries (Slovakia, Czech Republic, Poland and Hungary), DER Touristik is represented by its own tour operators and through alliances (ITS Billa, ITS Coop Travel, Jahn Reisen, Dertour, Meier’s Weltreisen, Transair) as well as through its majority interest in Exim Holding (Exim Tours, Kartago Tours).

In travel sales, DER Touristik is the market leader in the whole of Germany, with 2,100 sales agencies, the online travel portal der.com and numerous online tour operator portals. DER Touristik Partner-Service (DTPS).
