REWE Group and Carrefour sign an agreement on the sale of BILLA Romania
86 BILLA markets will go to the French trading company Carrefour, subject to approval by the anti-trust authorities. Focus to be on discount business with PENNY.
The REWE Group is divesting itself of its Romanian supermarkets. 86 stores of the BILLA sales line will be taken over by the French trading company Carrefour. A non-disclosure agreement has been concluded regarding the details of the purchase agreement. The takeover will take place in the form of a share deal and is subject to the approval of the relevant competition authorities.
“The REWE Group will in future focus on the further development of its discount business in Romania with PENNY,” explained Frank Hensel, CEO of REWE International AG and General Representative of the REWE Group. “By focusing on the discount business, the REWE Group can ideally advance its strategy for growth in Romania.” In the first nine months of 2015, PENNY’s sales in Romania increased by around 14 percent.
