REWE Group creates a strategic alliance with Colruyt, Conad and Coop Switzerland

REWE Group, the Cologne-based retail and travel and tourism combine, is hoping to create a new European strategic alliance between four independent companies and is paving the way for a correspondent company with headquarters in Brussels.

This was announced by the company on Friday 6 September 2013 in Cologne. The new alliance is to replace the strategic alliance COOPERNIC which was created by merging Colruyt (Belgium), Conad (Italy), Coop (Switzerland), E.Leclerc (France) and REWE Group. Colruyt, Conad, Coop and REWE Group separated from E. Leclerc because of irreconcilable differences regarding the shape and strategic development of the alliance in the future. The start-up linking these four partners is subject to approval from the respective national antitrust authorities.

All business operations, contracts and rights and obligations deriving from Coopernic will remain unchanged and continue in full swing until 31 December 2013.
