European Supply Chain Initiative (SCI)

The SCI was founded by European trade associations to promote fair business practices in the supply chain — particularly in the area of food and drink.

By joining the SCI, participating companies commit to observing clearly defined principles as part of their dealings with business partners, and abiding by specific processes in the case of disputes.

In addition, participating companies must establish an internal arbitration board which will deal exclusively with disputes that represent a potential breach of SCI principles. The contact partners for the arbitration boards are listed in the SCI Registry on the initiative’s official website:

Prior to the REWE Group registering as a participating company with the SCI in 2015, about 750 buyers in nine EU countries were trained in SCI’s principles and dispute mechanisms.
