Studies show that people who eat more fruit and vegetables suffer less often from cardiovascular disorders, cancer, high blood pressure, obesity and diabetes.

On average, the German population only eats 350 grams of fruit and vegetables every day. The recommended daily amount is 650 grams.

The 5 a Day campaign, promoted by the European Union, aims to change this. The REWE Group is one of its founding members. Together with other sponsors, including the German Nutrition Association (DGE), the Group has been taking action since 2000 to ensure that more fruit and vegetables are consumed. For example the REWE Group provides its customers with information on the core messages behind 5 a Day, such as the link between a balanced diet and individual well-being. In this way, the company raises awareness about the campaign.

In order to also promote a healthy lifestyle among children, REWE hands out school starter packages to children in the first grade. They contain fruit and vegetables and information about nutrition geared towards children.
