Your dual course of study: Tourism Management

The dual course of study with a Bachelor’s in Tourism Management comprises six semesters by alternating every three months with theoretical and practical phases. This allows you to acquire all theoretical knowledge as well as the most important practical foundations to really boost your career. As part of the practical application phases in our headquarters in Frankfurt am Main and Cologne, you will also gain a good deal of business acumen and social competence – two of the most important characteristics for an entry-level position later on.

At DER Touristik, you have the option of completing the dual course of study at two locations at at the following partner universities:

  • At headquarters in Cologne (ITS, JAHN REISEN, TRAVELIX) in cooperation with the Baden-Wuerttemberg Cooperative State University (DHBW) in Ravensburg
  • At headquarters in Frankfurt am Main (DERTOUR, Meier’s Weltreisen, ADAC Reisen) in cooperation with the University of Applied Sciences in Frankfurt/Main

This is what you should bring with you for your studies:

  • A general matriculation standard with a good grade point average
  • Good foreign language abilities, preferably in English and another foreign language
  • A developed interest in the travel industry and geography
  • Basic IT skills (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Experience abroad, e.g. work & travel, au pair or a school year abroad
  • Initial practical experience in the service/hospitality industry or tourism/travel agency
  • An ability to work in a team and a high level of personal responsibility


During the theory phase you will attend, among others, the following courses at the universities:

  • Basics of tourism
  • Destination management
  • Transportation
  • Basics of business management
  • Accountancy
  • Marketing
  • HR management
  • Business management
  • Commercial law
  • English

Students who perform well have the possibility to spend their fourth or fifth semester abroad at an international university. The bachelor’s thesis will be written in the fifth semester with the support of a department within DER Touristik.


Among others, your practical training at the headquarters in Frankfurt am Main or Cologne comprises the following training activities:

  • Planning, designing and calculating trips
  • Negotiating with airlines, hotels and other service providers regarding prices and conditions
  • Handling payment and billing processes
  • Taking part in marketing measures and in catalogue creation
  • Coordinating the collaboration between the tour operator and the travel agencies

The company phase at DER Touristik in Cologne will be rounded out with an assignment at one of our airport counters or in one of our company-owed travel agencies as well as in the destination area as a tour guide or in one of our hotels.
