German footballer, Thomas Müller, has supported REWE for many years now with his genuine and likeable manner.

From handball to marathons

Aside from many football partnerships both large and small, REWE is also involved with other sports clubs such as the handball clubs SC DhfK Handball Leipzig and the Rhein-Neckar-Löwen, and the basketball club Phoenix Hagen. Another key partnership is REWE Final 4, the national handball league cup final – a unique sporting event that brings together handball enthusiasts in Hamburg every year.

For many years now, runners in the GENERALI Cologne Marathon have been plied with energy-rich food and drink along the marathon route and at the REWE Group Refreshment Village.

REWE and the German Football Association (DFB) maintain a trusting strategic partnership. Founded in 2008, this long-term partnership was extended for a further period in 2019. An important goal is to instil the idea of a healthy diet in German football – from the national teams to the amateur level. This is being achieved extensively and sustainably through joint projects that encompass training for football coaches, the DFB’s football proficiency programme for kids (Fußballabzeichen), and the DFB academy.

With the “Goal Hungry – Eat right. Kick better.” initiative, REWE is involved in amateur football across Germany and supports clubs and football camp organisers nationwide by providing them with interesting training modules on nutrition.

PENNY goes Party

The discounter chain PENNY kicked off its first summer festival with “PENNY goes Party” at Parookaville, Germany, in 2015.

PENNY was then involved several times at other festivals – Hurricane, Highfield Festival and the 90erLive parties – where it offered festivalgoers a special selection of food and non-food items tailored to their needs.

Despite plans to further expand PENNY goes Party in 2020, it has had to be remodelled after coronavirus affected the festival season this year. The website routinely offers its visitors ideas for things to do while confined to their own four walls and recommends fun livestreams which allow the party to continue at home.

Ice hockey

PENNY and the German Ice Hockey League (DEL) enter new territory together with the start of the 2020/21 German ice hockey season. The German professional league is now called PENNY DEL and the contract runs until the end of the 2023/24 season.

The new league logo and the PENNY logo can be seen all around the stadium (on the referee’s kit, the jerseys, under the ice, on the boards and in the goals). In addition, PENNY has secured extensive activation rights to the DEL professional players. PENNY is also a committed premium partner of the German Ice Hockey Federation (DEB), thereby highlighting its long-term strategic partnership with German ice hockey.
