Supporting the "Tafel" food banks

REWE Group is one of the biggest contributors of food for the local "Tafel" food bank initiatives. Throughout Germany these provide food for people who cannot meet their daily needs.

Since 1996 REWE Group has been taking on social responsibility by making daily donations of food from its stores and warehouses in the spirit of the "Tafel" food bank motto "Everyone contributes according to his or her means".

It now supports around 860 local "Tafel" food bank chapters in this way. Much of the food comes from stocks that can no longer be sold but are nevertheless perfectly fit for consumption. REWE Group's nationwide provision of food for the local "Tafel" food bank initiatives makes it one of the biggest donators from the food retailing industry. REWE Group's REWE and PENNY stores are organised in six sales regions, allowing it to optimally support local "Tafel" food banks.

REWE Group also encourages its employees to get personally involved in this voluntary form of "social welfare" – even promoting the "Tafel" food bank idea among its suppliers from the food and nutrition industries.
