Consumer goods such as textiles, household appliances or toys are increasingly made in developing and threshold countries, such as China, India and Bangladesh. REWE Group also imports and buys products from these countries – and hence also bears responsibility for the conditions that prevail where they are made. REWE Group has joined the BSCI (Business Social Compliance Initiative) in order to improve social and working conditions in the supply countries.
BSCI offers a certification process with standard tools for members, suppliers and auditors. The aim is to ensure that within three years two thirds of the respective suppliers will be subjected to this monitoring system. Furthermore, regular round tables are staged, which bring together all actors to work out social practices for supporting the suppliers.
