Quality Assurance

Quality assurance is a comprehensive and multi-stage process. Stringent requirements are placed on suppliers - particularly private label brands and own imports. For instance, all private label suppliers must be certified in accordance with the internationally recognised International Food Standard (IFS). In addition to its own quality control, REWE Group regularly has food tested by independent institutes and laboratories.

The products are subjected to chemical-physical and microbiological tests to ensure their quality. Very stringent quality standards for hygiene and cleanliness also apply in the stores - particularly where unpacked food such as fruit and vegetables or baked goods are handled. This increases safety for employees and customers alike.

Great Value Placed on "Fruit & Vegetables" Segment

The "Fruit & Vegetables" segment" is particularly important. Here quality and safety checks are implemented at every level. REWE Group requires its producers to comply with GLOBALGAP certification, the leading standard for agricultural products. This quality system defines binding requirements for fruit and vegetable growing, regarding traceability of products, compliance with regulations on hygiene and food safety, reduction of the use of plant protection products as well as environmental protection and occupational safety.

German producers work accordingly in compliance with Quality Assurance standards. Comprehensive, risk-oriented laboratory tests to monitor residues of pesticides ensure that REWE Group's products comply with safety standards far more stringent than statutory legislation.

Wilhelm Brandenburg is First Class

Together with their own production company Wilhelm Brandenburg, REWE Group also ensures that its full range of meats, sausage products and ham specialities are produced under high-class and traceable conditions. The premises of Wilhelm Brandenburg are certified according to generally recognised quality assurance systems, and are regularly monitored and inspected by renowned institutes.

All meats, sausage products and ham specialities are exclusively produced for the sales lines of REWE Group, to guarantee a transparent and safe production for its private-label brands. Master butchers prepare all products ensuring that only the very best raw materials are used to produce them.
