Animal Protection in Tourism

Protection of animals and biodiversity are also part of the sustainable corporate strategy to which REWE Group has committed itself. The company has applied various initiatives and measures to put this commitment into practice.

"Coral reefs are one of the natural wonders of our earth. But in addition to their beauty they also fulfill important functions. Without coral reefs many holiday paradises would not exist. The coasts would be defenceless against the power of the waves. Coral reefs are particularly species-rich ecosystems, an important source of food for the local population – and a unique natural experience for all visitors.

REWE's Travel and Tourism Division has supported the efforts of the Society to Save the Dolphins (GRD) to help the Adriatic dolphin population survive. The project aims at helping to rescue injured or stranded dolphins and wales, establish protected areas and a protection centre for dolphins in croatia. Also educational advertising for fishermen, the general population and tourists is on the project's agenda. Travellers are informed at their travel destinations about the possibility of adopting dolphins, which is also available from the Environment and Sustainability Team at umwelt(at)rewe-touristik.com.
