Biogas

In addition to its efforts to achieve continuous improvement in energy consumption, REWE Group is also committed to the recycling of waste. Organic waste and so-called recyclable wastes are processed materially or energetically; for example, wastes from foodstuffs are converted into electricity and (remote) heating in biogas systems without producing additional CO₂.

The company is able to save just under 20,000 tonnes of CO₂ annually in this way. And: the energy generated from the biogas is enough to supply electricity to 7,500 three-person households for one year.
