
In the past any REWE Group employee who wanted health insurance could go to REWE BKK, REWE Group's corporate health insurance fund - the employees' very own health insurer. Then, in 1998, the health insurance fund was renamed FORUM BKK. In 2003, it subsequently merged with TAUNUS BKK and as of 1 October 2009 it merged with BKK Gesundheit. The alterations of the fund names had no influence on the valuable co-operation of the health insurance companies with REWE Group. BKK Gesundheit maintains close links with REWE Group and co-operates closely with the company in order to promote and protect the health of the employees.
Health Circles are implemented in toom hypermarkets as a measure for integrating employees in health issues. The eight circles each have approximately six meetings and are designed to analyse and develop local fields of action for promoting health. Similar interdisciplinary health circles are planned for the Full-range division (Central Region) in cooperation with BKK Corporate Health Insurance Fund.
Workplace programmes for the prevention of muscle and skeletal disorders, focusing in particular on back problems, have been realised in cooperation with BKK Gesundheit in Logistics, B2B and REWE Full-range division (Central Region).
As part of the "Keeping a Straight Spine - Vital at the Workplace" project the MedMobil mobile medical unit was available to REWE employees in 2009. This scheme involved doctors providing advice on possibilities for treating back problems and giving tips on sports and exercise. Employees also had the opportunity to receive workplace advice on back health in small groups and also to participate in individual coaching sessions run by ergo / behavioural trainers. In 2010 there will be follow-up medical checks in the MedMobil; its results will then be compared with those of the previous year.
Balanced nutrition in combination with exercise is the key to good health, personal well-being and, ultimately, the ability to perform better. That is why REWE Group is sincerely interested in providing good nutrition to its employees during working hours. In cooperation with BKK Gesundheit, the company offers the modular-structure programme for locations so that in the long term it will be possible to offer healthy and well-balanced meals to all employees in the canteen. Taking as a motto "Healthy eating promotes the capability to perform", REWE Group conducts employee surveys and uses analyses to determine the current catering situation. Furthermore, the meals offered in the canteen will be examined on the basis of the latest nutrition guidelines and quality standards in the company and target-oriented nutrition campaigns to heighten further awareness of the employees will be conducted. In addition, REWE Group features awareness weeks, courses on the topic of nutrition for its employees and other activities.
