REWE Group's Management Board has appointed Erich König to act as the General Agent for the IT and Logistics departments


REWE Group's Management Board has appointed Erich König (54) to act as the General Agent for the IT and Logistics departments, effective immediately. The decision of the Management Board serves to highlight the future-oriented importance of the two departments in the organisational and logistical reorientation of the company. IT and logistics are the key factors making a substantial contribution to the success and value generation of all REWE Group strategic business units by allowing the flows of value and merchandise that are so important for a trading company to be harmonised and synchronised so as to achieve clear competitive advantages.

Originally from the German federal state of Saarland, Erich König first joined REWE Group at the Berlin branch office on September 1, 1977, where he directed the departments of IT, Organisation, and Logistics until December 31, 1993. This period was above all marked by the implementation of the German reunification and of the European economic and currency union as well as the associated tripling of the Berlin office's turnover by the reference date. Mr. König then transferred to the company's head office in Cologne on January 1, 1994. Not long afterwards he took over the general management for REWE-Informations-Systeme GmbH (RIS). In this post, this expert in commerce and logistics was responsible for harmonising all the IT systems that guide merchandise flows. As a result, all cash till systems at REWE Group now share identical software. The same applies to the merchandise management, store, and warehouse systems. Erich König played a central role in Logistics by ensuring that REWE Group would receive a permanently optimised logistical structure oriented towards the needs of the individual strategic business units in the framework of the structural reforms (RSR).
