toom BauMarkt DIY completes management team with the appointment of Stefan Magel

Experienced DIY expert will position toom even more clearly in the competitive field


toom BauMarkt has completed the reorganisation of its management structure by appointing Stefan Magel (45) to be the Chairman of the senior management. As of 1 September 2009, Stefan Magel will be working together with Detlef Riesche, Head of the Commercial Administration since 1 June 2009, to secure a clearly defined position within the ever keener competitive environment of this sector for the DIY chain of REWE Group. Before joining REWE, Magel was the Managing Director Sales and Marketing for Globus Warenhaus Holding GmbH, Sankt Wendel. Magel succeeds Jan Kunath, who has been directing toom BauMarkt on a temporary basis since 10 March of this year. As previously scheduled, Kunath became universal agent of REWE Group in the Management Board division headed by Josef Sanktjohanser on 1 May and assumed general responsibility for the further development of the REWE Group specialist stores (toom BauMarkt, ProMarkt) and the B2B business.

"The appointment of Stefan Magel adds an experienced trade and DIY market expert to our team. He will dynamically develop further our innovative DIY market concept, which we employ to address very successfully the occasional home do-it-yourselfers as well as the classic target groups, and enhance its impact many times over nationwide. Now that the restructuring of toom and the integration of the 133 Marktkauf DIY stores has been completed, the focus of our efforts will be on the further strengthening of the brand toom with the objective of positioning the company as appropriate for its market significance," said Josef Sanktjohanser, member of REWE Group’s Management Board.

Stefan Magel holds a degree in business administration and has had a total of 17 years of professional experience in international trade. Ten of those years were spent in wide-area food retailing at real and Globus hyperstores, the other seven in the DIY sector at Castorama and Kingfisher. Stefan Magel is married and has two children.
