Position Statement from Alain Caparros

Cologne, 26.09.06

REWE Group CEO Alain Caparros makes the following position statement with regard to the preliminary investigations of the public prosecutor's office in Cologne initiated by REWE Group:

"We found indications of certain occurrences from past years as we were conducting internal revisions within our company. These occurrences may have suggested irregularities. The Management Board and Supervisory Board have thus unanimously voted to hand the results of these internal investigations over to the public prosecutor's office in Cologne.

The public prosecutor's office is now considering whether or not to widen its investigations. The key factor here is, of course, whether the occurrences are relevant for criminal charges. The press has reported that the public prosecutor's office is investigating a potential violation of the German Credit Business Law (KWG). We will actively support these investigations. We want to be certain that any such occurrences are clarified in their entirety.

I am unable to comment any more on the matter because we first have to wait for the results of the preliminary investigations of the public prosecutor's office.

Yet I would also like to emphasise that the 'new REWE Group' has played an active role in bringing this matter to light."
