REWE Group continues to re-organise and expand its second tier of management
After completing its Management Board in April of this year, REWE Group is now bolstering and rejuvenating the company's second tier of management leadership.
"We need a high-performance mixture of young leaders and experienced professionals at every level of management" said Alain Caparros, CEO of REWE Group, in introducing the upcoming personnel changes at the company's Head Office in Cologne.
Starting on 1 October of this year, Roland Berner (41) is to take charge of the newly created Business Development Department at the Cologne Head Office. Berner will support the Management Board and the senior managers of the strategic business units at REWE Group in proactively identifying and evaluating market changes and market opportunities, in designing targeted measures to expand the company's competitive position and in refining and enhancing international strategic alliances. In this new post, Roland Berner will report directly to the CEO of REWE Group, Alain Caparros. "We want REWE Group to continue its sustainable and profitable growth. We will only succeed if we modify and adapt our strategies consistently. In attracting Roland Berner, we have succeeded in finding a proven expert to handle this challenging task", said Caparros.
Roland Berner began his professional career in 1996 as a management consultant at Accenture. He then went to REWE Switzerland in 2003, formerly Bon appétit Group. There he served as a member of senior management in charge of strategy. Berner has been an independent strategy consultant since 2006.
Also on 1 October, Rüdiger Hahn will assume the management of Corporate Auditing at the Cologne Head Office. REWE Group is thus initiating a shift in management to a new generation by taking this early step. Waldemar Baier, who has managed the department since 1997, will continue to support Corporate Auditing on selected projects before he enters retirement at the beginning of 2011.
The 45-year-old Hahn has proven himself over many years of experience in auditing. He has previously worked at a lead position in the Corporate Finance Audit Department at Siemens AG in Munich. Before, Hahn, who has two children, had spent four years as the head of the Internal Audit Automotive Department at Siemens VDO Automotive AG. Rüdiger Hahn will also report directly to Alain Caparros in his new post at REWE Group. One of his main focal points will be to intensify the auditing activities in the company and to make them more proactive and preventive.
