Relevant Management Functions Assumed By Management Board Team
Dr. Berninghaus has a PhD in Business Administration and joined the Executive Committee of REWE Group in 1999. In 2001, he was appointed to the Management Board of Rewe-Zentral AG and Rewe Zentralfinanz eG and was named CEO from 01 May 2004. In his brief period as CEO, much was initiated, advanced and completed. REWE is on solid ground.
REWE Supervisory Board thanks Berninghaus for his very successful work and his constant enormous commitment: “We wish the departed CEO a rapid and complete recovery and the very best possible for him and his family.” Berninghaus will remain in contact with REWE Group.
The Management Board members Gerd Bruse (53), Josef Sanktjohanser (54) and Hans Schmitz (53) have assumed the duties of Dr. E. Dieter Berninghaus and, as an unchanged team, will continue to lead the Company. Bruse, who is responsible for accounting, finance and the Travel & Tourism business, assumes Group financial control and information technology, as well. Hans Schmitz, Chief Merchandising Officer, has been appointed the business area Discount, too, which encompasses both the German and international operations. In addition to these retail areas, he is responsible for hypermarkets, specialist stores, bulk wholesale delivery and Group marketing. Sanktjohanser, who has been responsible for Group logistics, full-range wholesale delivery and supermarkets, now assumes responsibility for international supermarket operations, as well as personnel and legal affairs for the Group, too.
