REWE Group Extends Management Board Contract with Alain Caparros

Supervisory Board members demonstrate their faith in the course set by the CEO with a new five-year contract
“Alain Caparros has done outstanding work in his capacity as REWE Group CEO over the past four years,” declared Heinz-Bert Zander, Chairperson of the REWE Group Supervisory Board. “He has consistently and efficiently implemented the REWE structural reforms and at the same time steered our company on a successful course by means of his great competence, commitment and determination. Whether retailers, management or employees — all of them trust equally in the leadership and strength of our CEO who set the bearings for the continued success in the development of REWE Group in good time.” Led by Caparros, the company has found its way back to a corporate culture of close solidarity and cooperation in a spirit of trust and respect, noted Zander.
“I am truly grateful for this great demonstration of trust,” said Caparros. “It is an incentive for me to continue along the path we have chosen in this environment of keen competition existing in the European trading and travel and tourism sectors.”
Alain Caparros has been a member of the REWE Group Management Board since April 2005. On 1 September 2006, he was designated Management Board spokesperson, then in December 2006 elected as CEO of the cooperative group for a term of five years.
REWE Group has turnover in excess of 50 billion euros and employs 330,000, making it one of the leading trading and travel and tourism groups in Germany and Europe. The company, which has a history extending back more than 80 years, operates over 15,000 stores in 16 countries. Its sales lines include supermarkets and hypermarkets of the brands REWE, toom and BILLA, the discounter PENNY, the DIY stores toom BauMarkt and the consumer electronics retailer ProMarkt. The operators ITS, JAHN REISEN and TJAEREBORG and Dertour, Meier’s Weltreisen and ADAC Reisen as well as about 2,500 travel agencies belong to the travel and tourism division.
