REWE Group Increases Its Trainee Numbers - Original Thinkers Wanted

Caparros: "Employees are our most important capital" - Teacher and trainer conference on behalf of the " Curators of the German Business Community for Vocational Education and Training" at REWE Group Headquarters in Cologne
REWE Group CEO Alain Caparros has announced a substantial increase in the number of training and apprenticeships on offer at Germany’s second largest food trading company. "REWE Group will increase the number of trainees and apprentices it employs this year by 600 to nearly 7000. This once again demonstrates our commitment to our social responsibilities," said Caparros on Wednesday, May 9, 2007, at the conference of commercial education and training managers held on behalf of the "Curators of the German Business Community for Vocational Education and Training" (Kuratoriums der Deutschen Wirtschaft für Berufsbildung) at the Headquarters of REWE Group in Cologne; the conference is entitled "Competence and Creativity - Factors in Enterprise Success."
"The well-qualified vocational education of young adults and continuing education and training are pursued just as much in our own interests; after all, our employees are our most important assets," said the REWE CEO to the group of some 200 commercial training managers from throughout the German business community. The massive structural reforms and modernisations at REWE Group could only be accomplished with the active participation the company's workforce. The company would continue to intensify the training of its employees - from young trainees to company leaders. To remain innovative and creative, this trading and travel group would need university graduates from all academic fields. "We need career changers and we need original thinkers," Caparros said.
Thirteen Trained Vocations and Targeted Human Resource Development
Vocational training and education as well as the advancement and promotion of new entrants were increasingly important because of changing demographics, Caparros said. As one of the nation's largest companies offering apprenticeships and vocational training, REWE Group relies on quality in vocational training. The company provides young individuals with a vocational future in commerce in 13 skilled trades. A major part of these trainees is hired after completing the programme. REWE Group already attracts potential trainees to food trading and to the company through its targeted work with young people in schools and universities. The company is above all on the lookout for innovative and creative personalities with knowledge of business.
The company uses targeted human resource development measures to promote its own employees systematically. The company's future leaders thus are hired from within and trained in entrepreneurial intelligence. "Such skills are essential for the survival of any company, including REWE Group," REWE Group’s CEO emphasised.
REWE Group Supports Students
REWE Group's commitment to Alanus University of Arts and Social Sciences also illustrates the importance of creativity and innovative abilities in combination with knowledge of business. Starting in the winter semester of 2007, the company will begin sponsoring two students of business studies at the university of arts. This field of study will impart solid scientific content, creative management skills, and a sense of cultural values. Aside from classical business basics, the latest business concepts and new future-oriented content and approaches are also part of the studies. Further, students who receive a scholarship will also work in various departments at REWE Group during their studies. There they will have the opportunity to apply their theoretical knowledge while obtaining insight into how the company thinks and works.
Around 200 representatives from all areas of the business community are to explore creative competence as a factor in modern corporate communications at this year's conference of commercial education and training managers under the title "Competence and Creativity - Factors in Enterprise Success" by the Curators of the German Business Community for Vocational Education and Training. The conference, held at REWE Group's Headquarters in Cologne, runs from May 9 to 10, 2007. Art made by artists from Alanus University will provide additional inspiration for the event.
Speakers on May 10, 2007, include the Economics Minister of the federal state of North-Rhine Westphalia, Christa Thoben, on the subject "Education and Training as Key Factors for Human Resource Development" and the president of the German Retail Federation and REWE Group Management Board member Josef Sanktjohanser on the subject "Commerce as an Engine for Development in a Globalised Economy."
