Locations of Berlin-based ProMarkt Handels GmbH strengthen sales network

The ProMarkt consumer electronic retail chain belonging to the Cologne-based REWE Group is taking over eight Promarkt.de branches from the Berlin-based ProMarkt Handels GmbH. The branches in Eberswalde, Halberstadt, Cottbus, Bobbau/Wolfen, Bremen, Fulda, Waghäusl and Rendsburg with a total of 150 employees will be adapted to the ProMarkt "Discount plus Service Concept" and reopened within four weeks starting from the mid of September. Following this acquisition ProMarkt will then have 65 branches throughout the whole of Germany. In 2008 ProMarkt boosted sales by almost six percent to around EUR 540 million. "With its stores that have a floor space of 1,500 to 1,800 square meters and its concept combining discount and service ProMarkt is undergoing a really positive development. The size and locations of the eight future branches ideally fit the existing network of branches and the team is highly motivated. The acquisition directly and sustainably strengthens the position of ProMarkt ", commented Jan Kunath, manager of the strategic business units B2B and Specialist Store. In addition to the branches at the respective locations ProMarkt is taking over all brand rights for stationary trade. "Within the course of this year throughout the whole of Germany we will already rename six branches - where up to now we sold goods under the name of Komet because of brand rights reasons - to ProMarkt. In future wherever there is a ProMarkt product, it will also bear the ProMarkt name", explained Matthias von Puttkamer, ProMarkt Managing Director.
