Positive Development in Results

The REWE Group package tour operators – ITS, JAHN REISEN, TJAEREBORG – anticipate profits in the two-digit million range at the end of the year.
The REWE Group package tour operators – ITS, JAHN REISEN, TJAEREBORG – expect positive results for the overall year despite the weak 2005/2006 winter season. The bottom line for the 2006 summer season shows a positive balance: The three operators exceeded the turnover of the previous year slightly, thereby meeting their targets. Dietmar Kastner, Head of Package Tours for REWE Group, says that the 2006/2007 winter season is off to a good start for the Cologne-based travel and tourism company. Current estimates project an increase in turnover of 8.5 per cent. Kastner forecasts a positive development in the results for the whole year because all the tour operator brands are in the black and set to turn in a combined profit in the two-digit million range. The results for the REWE Group travel division are to be published by the Management Board of the parent company at the end of the 2006 business year.
One point is already clear: "Our turnover trend in the summer would have been even better if we had responded to all the market gyrations. But in the end we preferred to aim for moderate growth closely oriented toward capacity adjustments, thus achieving higher flight capacity utilisation. This earned us a profit," said the package tour manager explaining the tendencies over recent months. Kastner added: "It is not turnover but results that matter in the end. This strategy will allow us to earn money better than others."
2006 Travel Trends
Particularly well-liked destinations over the 2006 summer season were Spain (+8 per cent), particularly Mallorca (+16), as well as Greece (+4) and Morocco (+11). Slightly above the previous year were Tunisia (+1) and Portugal (+2). Turkey, Egypt, and Bulgaria fell short of expectations. The biggest gainers in the long-haul travel segment included Kenya and Thailand for the business year. The Maldives and Sri Lanka also gained. The numbers of travellers decreased in contrast for the Dominican Republic, Cuba, and Mexico.
The automobile travel segment also booked a positive development this year. The shooting star here was Germany (+20). The traditionally strong destinations of Croatia (+10), Italy (+28), and Switzerland (+1) also experienced more visitors. The number of travellers driving to Austria declined.
Summer 2007The REWE Group package tour offerings for the summer of 2007 are wide-ranging and yet easy to follow: A total of 19 catalogues are on offer. While ITS is to remain consistent in expanding its family products, JAHN REISEN will offer individual explorers flexible travel for demanding customers. TJAEREBORG will go after bargain hunters by providing "lowest prices", many discounts, savings advantages, and free-of-charge extras.
Book flexibly, rely on the expertise of our operators, and save - the offer for "Pure Hotel" to 750 hotel addresses has been expanded for the summer at ITS and JAHN REISEN. This offer is aimed at holiday-makers who only want to book rooms for overnight stays without flights and transfers. It is now available for all close-range flight destinations. Customers can save up to 15 per cent over the prices obtained from booking right with the hotel operator. In general, all the REWE Group package tour brands apply the same system: Prices remain stable and do not rise despite the higher cost of jet fuel and the increased value-added tax. Those who book in advance can even save up to two per cent to several destinations on average.
