Alfred Glander to support the discounter's senior management

The food discounter PENNY will have a new head of the purchasing department. Alfred Glander will join the senior management on 1 October, at the latest. In his position, the 46-year-old manager will be in charge of the purchasing department and the category management. He will directly report to Armin Rehberg, who is member of the parent company's Management Board being in charge of the discount portfolio.

Glander has a vast experience in both food retailing and the discount business. Previously he occupied senior management positions at Edeka and Tengelmann. In his last post before joining PENNY, he served as head of the discount chain Plus, which belonged to Tengelmann. Meanwhile, PENNY took over 300 Plus stores from Tengelmann and converted them to fit its own sales concept.

"We are glad Alfred Glander, who is a renowned expert in the discount business, will strengthen PENNY's senior management team", said Rehberg. "He will add additional and important momentum to the successful development of our stores in Germany and abroad.

With its new management structure, PENNY relies on its proven combination of successful managers from among its own ranks and external experts such as Glander who contribute new and innovative ideas, Rehberg said. "On this basis, we are perfectly positioned in the harsh competition in the German and international discount business".
