Credit Cards at REWE Supermarkets

Over 2,500 stores accept Visa, MasterCard, and Amex credit cards


In recent years, credit cards have become a preferred electronic payment method in commerce, ranking just behind the widely used EC cards. Starting on Monday (January 8), customers at more than 2,500 REWE supermarkets throughout Germany can enjoy the speed and convenience of using their Visa, Mastercard, or American Express credit cards to pay for their purchases. REWE is co-operating with the credit card services company B+S Card Service in Frankfurt for Visa and Mastercard. By adding this new option – without requiring a minimum purchase – REWE is once again highlighting its service orientation.

These three established card providers cover around 95 per cent of the German credit card market. Last year alone, the number of credit cards issued rose to 23.3 million (2004: 21.4 million) surveys have found.
