Another Record Year for Dertour, Meier’s Weltreisen and ADAC Reisen
Toledo/Frankfurt, 17.11.11
Market leader for building component and long-haul tours secures its position
The expectations of the tour operators Dertour, Meier’s Weltreisen and ADAC Reisen for the business year 2010/2011 (1 November 2010 until 31 October 2011) have completely been met. With another increase in turnover of as much as 8 per cent to € 1.7 bn, the past season was the business year with the best turnover in the history of Germany’s market leader for building component and long-haul tours. “We have achieved this result despite the political conflicts in Northern Africa and the nuclear disaster in Japan. So we can honestly say: That was a good year, a great year for us”, said Michael Frese, spokesperson of the Management, on the occasion of the presentation of the summer 2012 programme in Toledo.
The holiday destinations around the Mediterranean Sea with an increase of 29 per cent contributed once again in particular to the growth achieved. The positive development in general was also based on travels within Germany and to the neighbouring countries (together plus 8 per cent) as well as the huge interest shown in the Nordic regions (plus 10 per cent). The bookings for Northern Africa have relatively quickly recovered and particularly Egypt returns to be as popular as in former times. Japan and China have been the losers in the tourism year 2010/11 – here, bookings have almost completely collapsed.
For the tourism year 2011/12 that has already started Dertour, Meier’s Weltreisen and ADAC Reisen have currently achieved an increase of 3 per cent – an impressing result bearing in mind the already high sales volume. “We are confident that we can achieve for the entire business year 2011/2012 again a growth between 3 and 4 per cent”, said Frese. Because the Germans’ desire to travel seems to be unbroken and also the trend towards early bookings continues.
The outlook for the consumers for the summer 2012 is particularly favourable: Long-haul tours offered by Dertour, Meier’s Weltreisen and ADAC Reisen will be cheaper on average due to the favourable exchange rate of the US dollar. This will benefit above all destinations in North America, but also in parts of the Caribbean, Mexico and Central America. Moreover, holidays will be cheaper to destinations in the Near East (minus 6 per cent), in South-East Asia (minus 5 per cent) and in the Indian Ocean (minus 2 per cent). Trips to New Zealand and Australia, however, will become more expensive (between 5 and 10 per cent) due to the strong currencies of these countries. The moderate development of the prices in Europe with slight increases between 2 and 4 per cent will make it possible to economically book destinations in Germany and the neighbouring countries even in the summer 2012.
With a total of 45 catalogues, Dertour, Meier’s Weltreisen and ADAC Reisen offer a wide range of most varied travel opportunities in the summer 2012. From summer 2012, sustainability will be given even more importance by the tour operators: Hotels bearing a sustainability seal will be for the first time especially labelled in the catalogues.
