Alain Caparros Appointed Chairman of the Board of REWE Group

Supervisory Board confirms the present course with a five-year contract - "External advocate for trust" and a code of conduct for company leaders as a clear commitment to transparency and corporate governance


In naming the current CEO of REWE Group, Alain Caparros, to the Chairman of the Management Board and by signing a new five-year contract in advance, the Supervisory Board of the Cologne-based firm has sent a clear signal in favour of the reform course and leadership style of the manager. Fifty-year-old Mr. Caparros had already been named CEO on September 1 of this year.

"Alain Caparros has our unreserved support and backing. Caparros had already achieved a great deal of respect as the CEO among REWE retailers, company leaders, employees, and company bodies thanks to his expertise, specialist knowledge, and openness. We will all join him in working hard to correct the missteps of the past so as to strengthen REWE Group to face competition in Germany and Europe", said Dr. Klaus Burghard, Chairman of the REWE Group Supervisory Board, on Tuesday (December 12) after a regular meeting of the company’s top supervisory body in Cologne.

"I am very pleased for this clear sign of confidence. We are facing major challenges ahead. These make it all the more important to have calm and optimism at the company", said Alain Caparros. Even though only one man can stand at the helm of a ship, success will also depend on the unanimity of the entire crew.

The REWE Group Supervisory Board also agreed to the establishment of an external office of "Advocate for trust" in the spirit of good corporate governance for all employees, company bodies, and business partners as an additional measure to prevent corruption and other failings within the company. "REWE Group takes this step to acknowledge its commitment to an even more extensive, obligatory code of conduct for company leaders for unlimited transparency throughout all parts of the company", Burghard added.
