ADEG is an Austrian trade organisation for independent retailers and is backed by a long tradition. In 1895, a small group of retailers joined together in a purchasing cooperative; in 1929 this group became the umbrella organization ADEG, the Arbeitsgemeinschaft der Einkaufsgenossenschaften (Consortium of Purchasing Cooperatives). Today, ADEG has one of the richest traditions among Austria's trade organisations and makes an indispensable contribution to local supply by maintaining a network of about 500 locations. One of the major pillars of the organisation comprises the more than 400 independent ADEG retailers that are supplied from ADEG Wholesale.
Since 2008, ADEG has been a member of REWE International AG, which holds 75 per cent of the company's shares. The acquisition laid the groundwork for the broadening of the foundation for the cooperation with independent retailers - the origins of REWE Group's business - in Austria as well.
