Vita Manfred Esser

Member of the Management Board of REWE Group

Manfred Esser, born in April of 1962, was named a member of the Management Board of REWE Zentral AG and REWE-Zentralfinanz eG, Cologne on 1 January 2008. Within the leading corporate body of REWE Group, the manager, acting so far as Universal Agent, is in charge of the divisions of Strategic Purchasing, Quality Assurance, Production as well as Coopernic.

Esser joined REWE in 1983. Following his apprenticeship as a merchant in wholesale and foreign trade (Groß- und Außenhandelskaufmann), he went to university to finish his MBA studies (Handelsfachwirt). After having occupied several positions in purchasing, including the non-food sector, he worked for the company in England from 1992 to 1994. From 1995 to 2004 he was in charge of establishing and expanding the PENNY discount sales line of REWE Group in Hungary, the Czech Republic, Spain, France, Romania and Italy. He was responsible for the merchandise business of PENNY in Germany and abroad since 2005. At the beginning of 2007, he was named as the Universal Agent for Strategic Purchasing.
