COOPERNIC

Success through common values

COOPERNIC was founded in 2006 as a strategic alliance between the five independent trading companies Colruyt (Belgium), Conad (Italy), Coop (Switzerland), E.Leclerc (France) and REWE Group. The alliance partners are present in 22 European countries, where they together operate a total of almost 19,000 stores. With COOPERNIC the partners have established an alliance to face up to the growing challenges of competition in Europe and the internationalisation of the retail trade. Here the companies can build on the common values shared by all partners in this strategic alliance - and these are values that play a central role for each of the companies themselves:

  • entrepreneurial independence and performance-orientation
  • determination and calculated courage for a creative response to future challenges
  • solidarity - within the companies and between the partners
  • social responsibility, which focuses on people - employees and customers
  • pragmatism and planned striving for efficient solutions

In November 2007 the alliance partners of COOPERNIC acquired for the first time a European company by taking over a majority stake of 80 per cent in the Lithuanian PALINK UAB-Group, which runs stores under the name iki - the number Two in the Lithuanian supermarket segment and the number Three in the Baltic states. At the beginning of 2009 PALINK took over - subject to the approval by the competent cartel authorities - 17 supermarkets of the Latvian Nelda Group that are situated in the city of Riga and its surroundings.
