When you participate in the dual studies programme as a student from REWE Group, you enjoy an ideal combination of a practice-oriented, theoretical university course of study at the European University of Applied Sciences in Brühl (EUFH) with practical application of what you have learned in everyday work This close meshing of theory and practice provides you with optimal preparation for the start in your professional career.
The degree course in retail management takes three years and is subdivided into six semesters. During each of these semesters, you spend three months in the company (internship phase) and three months at the university (theory phase).
Your examination for qualification as a wholesale and international trade specialist (Groß- und Außenhandelskaufmann / -frau) is conducted by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IHK) of Cologne in your fourth semester. The fifth semester is spent abroad at a university in another country. During the sixth semester, you write your bachelor thesis with the support of one of the business units of REWE Group. After fulfilling all of the requirements, you are awarded the degree of Bachelor of Arts after the sixth semester.
You will spend most of the time during your internship phases in the various departments at the corporate headquarters in Cologne. One of the essential tasks at corporate headquarters in Cologne is the procurement for our different store lines. That is why one of the internship phases will always be spent in Strategic Purchasing or in Category Management / Purchasing. The selection of the other assignments will be based on your strengths and interests. You might be assigned to any of the following business units: Strategic Marketing, HR Development, Strategy, Controlling, Sales Organisation and Quality Assurance. In addition, you will do a two-week intership in a store so that you become familiar with the work which must be done in our stores.
You will spend the time of the theory phase at the EUFH in Brühl. Until the time for the IHK examination, the course material for the vocational training will be taught in vocational training school classes specifically for the EUFH students at the Nell-Breuning-Berufskolleg in Frechen-Habbelrath on two days of the week. You will attend classes at the EUFH on the other three days. After passing the IHK examination, instruction will be given at the EUFH all week.
Study conditions at the EUFH are excellent. Instruction is given in small groups, and only university lecturers with practical experience are assigned as teachers. Training in social competence supplements the classic university subjects at the EUFH. Contents of the courses include such topics as teamwork, rhetoric and presentation techniques. Two foreign languages and a semester abroad are required elements of the degree course to ensure that your training prepares you for international assignments. The contents of the courses are closely related to actual practice, and you will prepare practice reports, case studies and the bachelor thesis in the company.
The high level of quality of the instruction at the EUFH is documented by excellent ratings during the institutional accreditation by the German Council of Science and Humanities, by the evaluations conducted by the accrediting agency FIBAA and by the latest university rankings issued by the Centre for Higher Education Development (CHE).
The accrediting agency FIBAA gave the following reasons for its excellent evaluation of the EUFH: "In the opinion of the assessors, there is virtually no better place to take a degree course as preparation for a professional career."
During your degree course, REWE Group will provide careful guidance and support. Your entry into the company will be facilitated by your participation in an orientation course for all new students and vocational trainees at REWE headquarters right at the start of your studies. We will conduct regular feedback discussions with you to promote your personal development. The network of the EUFH students from REWE Group will be strengthened by common events.
It goes without saying that your commitment will be compensated appropriately. REWE Group will assume the costs for the regular payment of the compensation during the training period as well as the full tuition at the EUFH.
