Alanus University - Re-thinking Business

Since October 2007, REWE Group cooperates with the Alanus University located in Alfter near Bonn, Germany. As a student of Alanus University you will be given the opportunity to obtain a deep insight into the working structures at REWE Group und to employ your theoretical know-how practically within our company.  

The course in Business Management with its final degree of Bachelor of Arts (BA) is a novel and future-oriented study course which distinguishes itself by combining of profound economic skills, contents from arts and cultural studies (culture, consciousness of values, development of personal and creative skills) and a high degree of practical training. Within this study course, it is taken into account that today’s working environments and business structures also requires creative competences and an awareness of cultural values besides solid professional competences, which cannot be gathered from studying business management. The traditional contents of business management studies are intentionally supplemented by study subjects that enable our students to acquire future-relevant key competences

• Length: six semesters
• Start: each year in autumn (September)
• Study structure
  - Theoretical phases (approx. 26 weeks per year) and
  - Practical phases (approx. 20 weeks per year)
• Final degree: 35 modules must be completed. The full and rigid timetable demands commitment and focus on the part of our students. The students’ efforts are rewarded by REWE Group and the University by offering individual attention and a practice-relevant training.
• Topics of emphasis can be chosen for the last two semesters, in order to focus on personal preferences. This choice can be made from a wide range of modules, which comprise
  - General Management
  - Logistics Management
  - Industrial Management
  - Trade Management
  - Industrial and Trade Management
• Semester or internship abroad: possible in the third semester following an arrangement with REWE Group

You will spend your practical phases at REWE Group in different departments at REWE’s Headquarters, such as

• Purchasing Food,
• Purchasing Non Food,
• Sales, Logistics,
• HR Development,
• Controlling and
• Warehousing commercial wholesale.

The tuition fees for the Bachelor study course at Alanus University amount to 4,200 euros per semester. These fees are partly compensated by a remuneration REWE Group pays to its trainees during their practical phases, which amounts to 500 euros per month. Moreover, financial support may be granted by the Alanus student loan fund and this course is also eligible for applying for a national student grant (Bafög).

The Master study course is currently being designed. It is scheduled to be launched in October 2009. Basically it is foreseen a deepening and extension of the study contents focussing on the same objectives. The specialisations in the Master study course are oriented towards General, Trade and Non-Profit Management. Both holders of Master degrees having graduated from Alanus University and from other universities may participate.
