Press Release
Why is REWE Group exhibiting at the International Green Week (IGW), and what exactly is there to see at the Farm Experience?
REWE Group is exhibiting the fresh and sustainable nature of its products all the way from the field to production and on to the shelves of REWE supermarkets and PENNY discount stores. This product pathway is most palpably illustrated to consumers at the IGW Farm Experience. The IGW is a welcome opportunity for the company to show visitors from around the world what responses it offers for the challenges facing the industry. The food trading company provides concrete answers to key issues such as freshness, quality, and sustainability as well as to healthy nutrition. These answers are on display at diverse expo stands, in the presentation of modern technologies, and, finally, in the framework of expert discussion rounds, quiz and cooking shows, and other offerings on the REWE Group stage.
Under which brand names are natural products sold at REWE and Penny?
Nutrition-conscious consumers can select the REWE Bio private label at REWE stores, and the Naturgut private label at Penny. All products of this constantly growing organic selection - from coffee to dairy products and frozen foods - originate from quality-controlled organic agriculture and ethical animal husbandry. Inspection institutes monitor how well the quality standards are applied, and these inspections are in turn regularly performed under the watchful eye of state inspectors.
What is the purpose of the new nutrition labelling?
Whether calories, fat, sugar, salt, or their recommended daily allowances - all essential nutrition information for each product is visibly printed on the front of the packaging of REWE Group private label goods. The values given are for 100 grams and for an average serving of each product. This eliminates the need for complicated conversions. It is a clear way of helping nutrition-conscious customers get oriented.
What does "5 a Day" mean?
"5 a Day" is health campaign initiated by REWE Group in co-operation with nutrition researchers, medical doctors, health organisations, and industry partners. The goal is to alter permanently the eating and dietary habits of people so as to prevent cardiovascular diseases and cancer. "5 a Day" recommends three servings of vegetables and two servings of fruits on a daily basis. It is the best foundation for healthy living. The campaign's website, www.5amTag.de, provides recipes, celebrity tips, games, and instructional materials targeting school children
What is the difference between REWE Group and REWE?
REWE Group is the umbrella brand name of one of the leading German and European trading and travel and tourism groups. Since its founding in Cologne in 1927, the company has evolved from a co-operative purchasing alliance to become a multinational corporation; today, it encompasses REWE supermarkets and Penny discount stores as well as toom hypermarkets, toom DIY stores, and ProMarkt consumer electronics outlets. In its travel and tourism business, REWE Group arranges travel sales through agencies under the AtlasReisen, DERPART, and DER brands. Its package tour operators include ITS and Tjaereborg, and its building-block tour operators comprise Dertour and Meier's Weltreisen. "REWE" has served as a uniform national sales brand for the company in the food segment since 2006.
Who is W. Brandenburg?
The "W. Brandenburg" brand, sold exclusively through REWE Group, is a name with a long tradition. This quality butcher shop has produced meat and processed meat products of the highest quality since 1885, and it is a production subsidiary for REWE Group today. This is how we know that only the most rigidly inspected ingredients are processed according to age-old hand-crafted principles. The W. Brandenburg products are also subject to a system of comprehensive documentation and inspections - from the selection of suppliers to the livestock feeds, all the way to the refrigerated shelves in our stores.
What is Glockenbrot?
REWE Group independently operates one of the most important large-scale bakeries in Germany: "Glocken-Bäckerei". Product development, baking, and process technology co-operate at an optimum here in order to offer REWE and Penny customers these repeated award-winning breads and baked goods in daily freshness.
What does the abbreviation FNL stand for?
FNL (Fördergemeinschaft Nachhaltige Landwirtschaft e. V. - Federation to support sustainable agriculture) is a federation of associations, organisations, and enterprises in agriculture and the industries they supply as well as those that supply them. The FNL organisation supports common efforts to provide information about the diverse products and services of modern agriculture on the basis of solid facts. FNL sees this effort as necessary because the division of labour in today's society has removed many people from agriculture and the production of the foods we eat. In addition, FNL promotes the sustainable development of agriculture. FNL is now presenting the Farm Experience at the International Green Week in Berlin in partnership with REWE Group. For more information, visit www.fnl.de.
What does the QS test seal stand for?
The QS testing system allows users very specifically to determine the origins, transport pathways, and production sites of each item of food - across all stages of production, from the field or stall all the way to the store counter. The QS test seal can thus only be applied to those foods (meats and meat products, fruits, vegetables, and potatoes) whose life cycles have been documented by experts according to the binding guidelines of the QS testing system that constantly accompanies products. For consumers, this all means more transparency, and thus greater confidence and security. For more information, visit www.q-s.info.
